Placement & Installation Instructions
For optimal coverage, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and manufacturers recommend installing a carbon monoxide alarm on every level of a multi-level home, including inside bedrooms, living spaces, hallways, and basement areas. Mount the unit at eye level for ideal viewing of the digital screen and diagnostic LEDs.
Flexible Mounting Methods:
- Option 1 (Screw Mount - Standard): Hold the mounting bracket against the wall, mark the screw holes with a pencil, drill the holes, tap in the provided plastic wall anchors, secure the bracket with screws, insert the AA batteries, and slide the alarm onto the bracket.
- Option 2 (3M Adhesive Tape): Insert the batteries, attach the bracket directly to the alarm housing, apply the 3M tape to the back of the bracket, and press firmly to adhere the assembly to the desired wall space. (Note: Adhesive installation is not ETL test certified).
Crucial Locations to Avoid:
- Do not install within 5 feet of heating or cooking appliances (a minimum of 15 feet is highly recommended to eliminate nuisance alarms caused by normal kitchen combustion).
- Do not place in direct sunlight, behind heavy furniture, or behind window curtains where air currents are blocked.
- Keep the device out of excessively dusty, dirty, greasy areas, or high-humidity zones like bathrooms.
- Avoid dead-air spaces (such as the peak of vaulted ceilings or gabled roofs) and areas with turbulent airflow from ceiling fans.
If you hear your carbon monoxide alarm beeping, check the LCD digital display and the tricolor LED status light immediately:
4 Quick Beeps and a Red Flash: This indicates a dangerous level of carbon monoxide has been detected. Evacuate the premises immediately and call 911.
Single Chirp with an Amber Flash: This is a low-battery warning.
Single Chirp with a Blank Screen: This indicates the unit has reached its end of life and the entire carbon monoxide detector needs to be replaced.
