The USI AMIC1510SB 3-in-1 Sensing Plus® Hardwired Smoke, Fire & Carbon Monoxide Alarm provides 10 years of continuous protection against deadly threats in the home. New Sensing Plus® Multi-Criteria Detection provides the benefits of both photoelectric and ionization alarms in one device to protect against fast flaming and slow smoldering fires. This hardwired combination alarm also offers protection against the silent killer - carbon monoxide - making it a 3-in-1 detector. The ideal addition for new or replacement installations, this maintenance-free alarm is suitable for houses, apartments and mobile homes in every room. This 3-in-1 alarm includes a 10 year lithium free battery backup that will never have to be replaced throughout the life of the detector, giving you a decade's worth in peace of mind even in the event of a power outage.
10 Year Permanent Power also saves money from battery replacements (up to $38.00 over the 10-year life of the alarm), eliminates annoying low battery chirps and helps the environment by reducing environmental waste from disposed batteries. This USI Electric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector features microprocessor intelligence that assists in completely eliminating nuisance alarms, a single silence/test button to quiet a non-hazardous alarm and an end-of-service life warning that sounds when it's time to replace the battery (approximately 10-years from activation).
Perfect for replacing existing USI Electric Combination Detectors, this combination alarm features a large mounting base to cover imperfections in drywall and the option to replace retrofitting applications. The quick activation battery pull tab makes it easy to install while the deactivation key switches the combo alarm off and makes the batteries safe for disposal. Once the 3-in-1 combination alarm is deactivated, the tamper resistant feature turns on to prevent deactivated alarms from being reinstalled.

Hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms provide a integrated solution for protecting a home from two of the most significant life-safety threats. These dual-sensor combo alarms are permanently wired into a home's electrical system, ensuring a continuous and stable power source for both smoke and CO detection. This hardwired connection offers superior reliability, as the alarms are always on and actively monitoring for hazards without the risk of a dead or forgotten battery. A key benefit is the ability to interconnect these alarms with other compatible units throughout the house. If one detector senses a threat - whether it's smoke from a fire or a dangerous level of CO - all linked alarms will sound simultaneously, providing an early, widespread warning to all occupants. Many of these hardwired units also include a battery backup, acting as a crucial failsafe to ensure the alarm remains fully operational during a power outage. This integrated, multi-threat approach offers the highest level of dependable and comprehensive protection for your home and family.
Advantages of a Hardwired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm
- Continuous, Reliable Power: The primary advantage is the constant, stable power source directly from your home's electrical system. This eliminates the risk of an alarm failing due to a forgotten or depleted battery.
- Interconnected System: Hardwired alarms can be linked together, so if one alarm detects smoke or a high level of CO, all connected alarms will sound simultaneously. This is a critical safety feature for larger or multi-story homes, ensuring everyone receives an early warning, no matter where they are.
- Compliance with Codes: Many local building codes now require hardwired, interconnected alarms for new construction and major renovations. Installing a hardwired system ensures your home meets these modern safety standards.
- Tamper-Resistant: Because the alarm is permanently wired into the wall, it's more difficult for children or other occupants to accidentally disable or move the unit.
Advantages of a Hardwired Smoke and CO Alarm with a 10 Year Battery Backup
- Uninterrupted Protection During Power Outages: The 10-year sealed battery serves as a crucial failsafe. It ensures the alarm remains fully operational even if a power outage occurs, which is a time when CO dangers can be elevated from generators or other backup heating sources.
- Eliminates Low-Battery Chirps: You will never be woken up in the middle of the night by the irritating low-battery chirp. The long-life battery is designed to last the entire 10-year lifespan of the alarm, only signaling an "end-of-life" warning when it's time to replace the entire unit.
- Maintenance-Free: For a full decade, you can "set it and forget it." You won't have to remember to change the battery annually, saving you time, money, and the risk of operating a non-functional alarm.
- Combined Reliability: The combination of a hardwired power source and a long-life battery backup provides the highest level of dependability and peace of mind, offering the best of both worlds in home safety.
Yes, if you the alarm has a battery backup. Hardwired smoke alarms are wired directly into your home’s electrical system, but nearly all modern models - including most Universal Security Instruments alarms - also include a backup battery. This built-in battery allows the alarm to continue operating even if your home loses power, ensuring you’re protected at all times.
Power can go out during a fire for several reasons. Intense heat can damage electrical wiring, circuit breakers may trip to prevent further hazards, or flames and smoke may affect electrical panels and utility lines. In some cases, firefighters or utility crews will intentionally shut off power to keep conditions safer. Because of these possibilities, the backup battery is an essential feature - it ensures your smoke alarm will sound even if the fire itself disables your home’s electricity.
For homeowners, this means peace of mind: whether it’s a fire, a storm, or a routine power outage, your hardwired smoke alarm is designed to keep working when you need it most.
Many people assume that every smoke alarm requires a backup battery change, but most Universal Security Instruments hardwired smoke alarms are designed differently. The majority of our models feature a sealed, 10-year lithium free battery that never needs to be replaced. This long-life backup battery is permanently built into the unit, ensuring continuous protection even during a power outage.
Because the battery is sealed, there's no door or compartment for you to open. When the alarm reaches the end of its 10-year service life, the entire smoke alarm should be replaced with a new unit. This design eliminates the need for battery changes, prevents tampering, and ensures you always have reliable backup power.
If you have an older model that uses a replaceable battery, the user manual will provide step-by-step instructions. Typically, this involves twisting the alarm off its mounting bracket, opening the battery compartment, and installing a new battery of the specified type. However, if your alarm is a newer sealed-battery model, you do not need to replace the backup battery at all.

Hardwired Combo Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10 Year Battery Backup Reviews
Thanks to USI (Universal Security Systems, Inc) I was able to replace my failing CO and Smoke detectors within a few days. Ordering online from USI was easy. I was able to pick the perfect replacement for my previous CO & Smoke detectors such that I did not have to replace the ceiling base or VAC connector. The order was processed and sent promptly and tracking information was sent to my email address. I subsequently ordered and extra one as a back-up for my 3rd detector which has a limited life left. Thanks again USI...Job well done!!
great product. very reliable.
This smoke detector is a perfect fit for the older one in my home that had exceeded it's 10-year life span. With the help from a Universal customer service rep I was instructed how to remove and replace the base plate on my ceiling, then simply plug in the new unit and attach it to the new base. Easy to do and the unit works as intended. I believe this is the 3rd one I have purchased from Universal and will continue to do so as the older ones wear out!
I had an issue with ordering during black Friday sale, sale but I called the next business day (Monday) and they honored it and took care of my order right away. Thank you!
Worked well for 7 years and had to replace all now
Replaced original home's AC powered smoke alarms. Easy to wire and mount. Like the triple sensor and 10 Year backup battery.
Second one of this model. Love the new intelligence and built in 10 year battery.
Ordered and received well on time. Very easy to instal and also fit on existing ceiling bracket.
Replaced five 8 year old smoke detector with this new model. Very simple and took about 10 minutes as they had the same connections as the old ones.
Have had in place for a full year now, definitely an improvement over the Kidde detector located outside our basement bathroom that would detect steam falsely as smoke. Yellow interconnect wire goes to house red wire ... just remember white to white and black to black and yellow to whatever is left. Love the idea of never replacing the battery, hope that holds true.
