Fire Safety Month 2019 Sweepstakes by USI
Fire Prevention and Smoke Detector Safety
This Universal Security Store Fire Prevention Month contest has ended, but fire safety awareness remains important year-round. A properly installed USI electric smoke detector, along with carbon monoxide alarms and a practiced escape plan, can help provide early warning when your household needs it most.
Why Smoke Detectors Matter
Smoke detectors are one of the most important safety devices in the home. They help alert your household to smoke and fire hazards, giving everyone more time to respond and follow an escape plan. Whether you need a battery-operated alarm, a hardwired alarm, or a whole-home alarm setup, choosing the right smoke detector can make a meaningful difference in your home safety plan.
Explore smoke detectors and fire alarms from Universal Security Store to compare options for bedrooms, hallways, living areas, basements, and other important locations throughout the home.
USI Electric Smoke Detector Options
A USI electric smoke detector can be a strong option for homes with existing hardwired alarm connections. Hardwired smoke alarms are commonly used for interconnected protection, allowing alarms in different areas of the home to work together when properly installed.
If your home is not wired for electric smoke alarms, battery-operated models can provide flexible placement and dependable protection in key areas. Both installation types can support a complete fire safety plan when alarms are placed, tested, and replaced according to manufacturer recommendations.
Battery-Operated Smoke Alarms
Battery-operated smoke alarms are useful for homes, apartments, dorms, and areas where hardwired alarm installation is not available. They offer flexible placement and can help expand smoke detection coverage throughout the home.
Hardwired Smoke Alarms
Hardwired smoke alarms are designed for homes with compatible wiring and are often used in interconnected alarm systems. A hardwired USI electric smoke detector can help support whole-home fire detection coverage.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Safety
Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors protect against different hazards. Smoke alarms help detect signs of fire, while carbon monoxide alarms help detect CO gas that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. For many households, both types of alarms are important parts of a complete home safety setup.
Place smoke alarms inside bedrooms, outside sleeping areas, and on every level of the home. Carbon monoxide alarms are especially important near sleeping areas and on levels with fuel-burning appliances, fireplaces, attached garages, or other possible CO sources.
Fire Prevention Safety Checklist
Use this simple checklist to help review your home’s fire safety readiness.
